Pokémon: The First Movie (2.06.11)
Yes i know its juvenile and outdated, but that's why i love it. Once i got past the overwhelmingly face-meltingy nostalgia, i could actually concentrate on trying to criticize the film. This was surprisingly difficult. I couldn't criticize the voice acting, because it was brilliant, I couldn't criticize the story, because it was astoundingly absorbing. I couldn't even criticize the animation, because it looked fantastic. Perhaps even, super effective. *bad pun grin*
I miss being part of the demographic this was made for. Those few years were so much better than now. But for an hour and a half, i got to relive those precious years.
Rating: 9.5/10 (still a little nostalgia blinded)

I could never get into the pokemon movies, even if the games weren't half bad
ReplyDeletei remember watching the first one and the entei one. good stuff
ReplyDeleteI still remeber watching this in theaters, good ol' nostalgia. I've dug up my old vhs and rewatched it a couple years ago, it's surprisingly not that bad. The removie short Pikachu's Vacation is still funny to this day.

ReplyDeleteThe first movie was ok when I saw it..when I was like 14.
ReplyDeleteMovie was solid, but they failed to make it feel like more than just a few episodes tacked together.
ReplyDeleteNot going to lie, I cried...
ReplyDeletehaha, i feel the same way about the neverending story, utterly nostalgia-blind

This one is going to my watch list!
ReplyDeleteI remember this. Mew and Mewtwo. Yeah this would definitely be nostalgia evoking.
ReplyDelete9.5 seems a bit high, even after acknowledging that it's juvenile. Maybe you should take off the nostalgia goggles.

ReplyDeleteMagic Pikachu tears... never realized how not very effective plot point (yes, those puns are cool) until I grew older, but your right, to the films target it was awesome
